Sleeplessness and Wireless-less night

My wireless router just got busted.  So this entry will be done without any internet connection (wireless or wired).

Currently:  catching up on Gossip Girl episode after the winter hiatus.  I don’t know about you, but I’m liking the Dan + Blair dynamic.  Hope they stay friends and nothing else.  It seems that Blair does value Dan’s opinion now and they have no qualms saying whatever they feel about each other.

Since last night, I went to Best Buy really early to get a new wireless router.  I don’t think I could ever endure another day not having internet!  Even Baby Boy was frustrated since he couldn’t watch his YouTube channels.

image

I got this one and it’s also on sale!  The good thing about this is it’s a dual broadband router-which means that you have the option to create to SSID (1 for you and the other for guest) - you can set up the transfer speed for both networks, create 2 different ID and password and a USB port where you can store an external hard drive to share over your network.  Love it!  Will let you know how I feel in the future....

So when getting this router and a Wii game for Baby Boy, the cashier asked me if I want to purchase a protection plan for both.  The wireless router is good for 2 years and 1 year for the Wii game.  It seems that Best Buy has a protection plan for any items they have at the store.  Wonder if that says anything about the quality?

Another snow day - working from home

Another snowy day today... working from home.

There are some advantages and disadvantages of having a snow day and working from home.

Since I like hearing bad news first before the good, here are the disadvantages:

snow-philly-plixi-jay-wright-12611-595x400

Having to dig your car out on a foot of packed snow.  I spent quite a while outside trying to clean my car (btw the pic on the left is from this website but it’s damn close to what I have to put up with)

Chocolate n Peanut Butter Croissant and coffee

Secondly, since “mommy” is home, I have to also do my duties at home-cooking and keeping the peace between Hubs and Baby Boy.  I swear those two have the same personalities that they clash all the time!

DSCN0281

Thirdly, keeping Baby Boy occupied while I try to work.  I eventually gave him my camera so that he can take pics of his Lego.

Now the advantages:

Working in your pjs!  Wish we could all come in to work in pajamas then go straight to nap time.

DSCN0267

An office with a view overlooking the woods.  I don’t know what it is about the view from my window that makes everything feel so serene.

And lastly (and certainly not the least) being able to stay in with my Baby Boy.  No matter how frustrated I get he always manages to melt my heart with a smile and a hug.

So that’s it.  Unfortunately, its back to the grind tomorrow.

XOXO.

Currently: watching Jersey Shore.  Did Deena just said that she enjoys to l**** a******s?  Gotta love this show....

Shoe rack searching

Since I vowed to use the entire 100% of items in my closet (including my shoes) for everyday wear, this would mean that I need to add an organizing tool for storing them neatly.

My closet is not big at all and I pretty much took half of Hubs’ closet to store my sweaters and blazers.  While this took care of my clothes (currently residing at 1 and a half closet, a 6 drawer dresser and a 3 drawer pink plastic bin) my shoes are not stored in its suitable place-it is scattered at the bottom our bed, a pile inside my closet, our coat closet, our linen closet and by the doorway.

For 2011, one of my resolution is to get organized.  There is nothing worse than looking for a pair of shoes that you can’t remember where it’s placed.

I would love to have a shoe closet like Mariah Carey’s cribs episode!  Oh to have a room (bigger than my bedroom) for just shoes!  I just noticed that she also has purses on the top shelf.

Sadly, I will have to settle for random shoe racks instead.

Otherwise (while not as excessive) will look like Lindsay Lohan’s twit pic of a third of her shoe collection.

OMG... does that make me a shoe hoarder???

Grey days meant gray outfit

Thursday turned out to be a nice day once the afternoon hit.  My morning drive was drizzling with fog-now, I am not a morning person to begin with but this added more to my frustration.

It seems that I’ve been having a lot of grey days lately... either that or my wardrobe has expanded the gray color lately.  Maybe grey (for me) is the new black....

Today I wore my Mossimo Ultra Soft v-neck sweater grey striped, Mossimo Long and Lean tank, and Bandolino BLU jeans.

I just got these Charles Albert short slouchy cowboy boots yesterday at Ross.  I was just returning something at the store but I always check out their shoes section.  The shelves were pretty bare and these were actually hidden in the size 9!  I have been in search for cowboy boots for a long time now... my only gripe with the ones that I’ve seen were they looked too western(ey) - I’m not too fond of buckles and stitch pattern designs.  When I saw these, I was in love!  They were perfect-not only were they the perfect look but they were in suede!  The sole is made of rubber so walking on them is a lot easier than wooden soles since they are not so heavy.  The point makes my feet look slimmer and smaller than they are-Bonus!

Currently:  watching Couples Retreat.  I actually like this movie, up until the end when they started busting out the Guitar Hero... I feel that it was an unnecessary addition to a movie that focuses on couple bonding and friendships.

Landmarks and memories

They say that sometimes a particular song you hear, a scent you smell, a taste of a particular food and images you see can trigger a memory that has slipped your mind.

Lately I’ve been listening to the Hall and Oates Radio Station at Pandora Radio which sparked a memory of my childhood years.

A list of things that I remember just like they were yesterday.

album-the-carpenters

The Carpenters.

My mom was a huge fan of The Carpenters.  We used to have a karaoke machine and my mom would always pick a song by them.  Her voice was warm and soothing just like Karen Carpenter when she sings.

Sampaguita

The sampaguita.

Sampaguita is the Philippines national flower.  They are so fragrant!  The scent is similar to jasmine.  These little buds can be seen adorned on leis.

While I’ve seen these beautiful flowers in full bloom, nothing reminds me of growing up than seeing them in bud forms.

Prudencio

483 Prudencio Street.

We lived in Prudencio street.  I tried pulling Google maps in hoping that I could see (at least the roof) our house.  Sadly since they had made tons of renovations before we left to the States, I probably won’t remember what it looked like.

Holy Trinity Parish Church in Balic-balic.

In my elementary school years, I attended Holy Trinity Academy Girl’s Department.  Back when I attended, the school was divided into boy’s and girl’s departments.  My fondest memories was attending this school-from the cheerleading competitions, school plays, class parades and my barkada.

Inside Holy Trinity Parish.

This is the inside of Holy Trinity Parish Church.  While searching for images of the church, I came across this picture.  I do not remember the inside of the church, however, if you look closely (the image I circled in red) looks like a projector screen.  Ah, this I remember!  I remember going to mass once a week and singing songs using the projector to help us with the words.

curlytops2

Ricoa Curly Tops.

If I have a choice of any chocolate that I could eat everyday, it would be this one!  It is definitely an acquired taste (and somewhat chalky) so why would I choose this one?  Simple.  It’s because of the memories... I remember tasting these little gems while rummaging (okay, snooping) through my grandparents’ dresser looking for my Christmas presents and a box of Curly Tops is what I’ve found in between my grandfather’s v-neck white shirts...

SOEN

SO-EN Undergarments.

Speaking of Christmas-remember when your relatives would give you underwears and socks for Christmas?  No, hmm must be just me then.  Anyway, SO-EN is a Filipino brand of undergarments.  We (my sister and I) would receive this type of box during the Christmas holidays as gifts from our grandparents and aunts.

Jollibee.

Any Filipino knows what Jollibee is.  It is a fast food chain that was McDonald’s competition in the Philippines.  My favorite food item of theirs is the spaghetti-the sauce was sweet and had ground beef and hotdogs!

Greenhills Shopping Center

Tripadvisor and Yahoo Travel has recommended this shopping center for an excellent shopping experience filled with bargains.  I’m sure before, this was a fairly small shopping center that has expanded.  All I remember about this place was the video store that we would rent movies from and one time gotten a seedless watermelon.

Another thing I remember - which doesn’t require any images... So the sewer system in our neighborhood wasn’t good (and non existent) so when it rains, the ground will be about 5 inches above water.  I always enjoyed walking in this water, no matter how disgusting it was.  When you were a kid, you never think about the disgusting things that may have been breeding in that water, all you know is that its water that resembles the beach...  Oh yeah, also when it rains, the kids in the neighborhood would bring soap outside and shower in the rain...

So there it is... my first list of landmarks of memories of me growing up in the Philippines.  Me and my sister had led a pretty sheltered life.  We weren’t allowed to go out of the house and the only time that we actually see the street is when we climbed up of our gate to talk to the kids in our neighborhood.

Back to Basics Thursday

Since Wednesday was a snow day, I did not feel like making an effort to putting an outfit together-especially since I still have to clean off the snow on my car in the morning!

Thursday was back to basics-grey boyfriend cardigan, white tee and jeans.

The shoes I wore are my UGG Classic Tall in Chestnut.  I know I didn’t get to post these shoes yet but it was mentioned here.  These shoes were my second pair of UGG boots and still one of my favorites.  You can tell that these boot have been through so much abuse-just look at all the stains!

Currently:  Listening to Madonna’s Debut album.  This album is by far my favorite of hers which made me become her fan!  My parent’s used to say that everytime I hear a Madonna song, I would just start busting out in a dance craze.

Snow Day Wednesday

Due to the snow storm that hit the East Coast, my office closed.  Unfortunately, since this was announced on Tuesday afternoon, I had to work from home.  This meant that I was unable to enjoy my snow day with Hubs and Baby Boy.
Snow Day
Just look at the gust wind blowing the snow!  Needless to say, I was kinda glad that I stayed in.

I wore my Knit Mukluk Slippers from Old Navy that I got from my sister for Christmas.  These slippers are fabulous!  These kept my toes warm and toasty.  Also in the picture is my Old Navy skull pajamas seen here.  Let me just say that these are my favorite pjs!  Whenever I am lounging around the house, this is my go-to outfit.

AF1s Philippine style

So while reminiscing through my childhood, best believe that I would not forget footwear!

In a previous post, I mentioned that I grew up in the Philippines.  I also went to an All Girl Catholic School which enforced the students to wear uniforms.

An all-white dress with a thin navy belt were the uniform which would be worn on regular days when classes in session.

Shoes worn on these days were kung fu mary janes.

fe20_2

For P.E., I had to wear a navy Culotte shorts and our school cotton t-shirt.

P3045365

These white pair of sneakers which looked like the Reebok classic high tops (I think they were called Kaypee) were worn during P.E.  Unfortunately, I was unable to find these kicks.

However, I was lucky enough to bump into this link.

Yes, it is!  Philippine Air Force Ones!

Okay so lemme break it down to you why I think this is the hottest shoes (and my total obsession)….

philippines-air-force-ones-kix-3

Exhibit 1:  The color of the Philippine flag once it’s brought up to the sky.

Memory lane – every day after recess (lunch), all the classes would line up to pray then sing “Bayang Magiliw” while 2 people would be in charge of raising the Philippine flag.

philippines-air-force-ones-kix-4

Exhibit 2:  The leather design on the lace loops!  Yes it is checkered design…. but what’s so genius about it is that it resembles the weaving of straws to make banig (here is the Wiki link), handbags and other things.

philippines-air-force-ones-kix-5

And finally, Exhibit 3:  located by the back next to the sole is the sun and 3 stars (which is also part of the Philippine flag).  The 3 stars represent the 3 major islands of the Philippines.

Christmas goodies

For the past 2 years, there seems to be a theme on the gifts that I’ve received and given.  Christmas 2010’s theme was SHOES!

Gifts from me:

Got the Nike Men's Air Force 1 Low Basketball Shoe in black&white from Finish Line

Nike Men's Air Force 1 B/W box Nike Men's Air Force 1 B/W shoe

Out of all the shoes I looked at these are the ones I wanted to get him.  You could never go wrong with AF1s!  These kicks are specialized with what they call “Black Ice” which gives the translucent black soles.

Got the Ben 10 Alien Force sneakers in white for Baby Boy.

FYI, the picture above was laid out and taken by him!

Ben 10 Alien Force box Ben 10 Alien Force sneakers

These were perfect!  It goes along with the Ben 10 action figures I got him for Christmas.

I got these shoes and another style in black (will post pics later).  It was sheer luck that I saw these shoes at Burlington Coat Factory while window shopping for coats and boots.

Gifts given to me:

Got the UGG® Australia 'Bailey Button Krinkle Boot in Chestnut from Hubs at NORDSTROM.

UGG Bailey Button Krinkle bootUGG Bailey Button Krinkle box

Love, love, love these boots.  It’s just what I wanted!  I love the crinkle leather look.  I’ve had so much of the suede that this is a nice change.  Oh and the sheep skin is super soft and much fluffier than the Classics.

I don’t even want to know how much trouble he had to go through to get these since they are very hard to find.

Got the Coach Drexel Winter Snow Boot in Chocolate from my sister at Macys.  Sadly, they do not carry the boots she got me but these are also nice!

Coach Drexel Winter Snow Boot  Coach Drexel Boot box

Love these boots!  It’s perfect for the winter weather…. while I don’t think that I would wear this for the snow (even thought it is a snow boot), it’s too pretty and I wouldn’t want to damage it from the salt on the ground.

Currently:  Snowed in and enjoying orange wedges while watching Ben 10 Alien Force (not by force but its quite enjoyable nonetheless).
